●和歌山県出身。父親が音楽家だった影響で幼少時にピアノを始め、高校時代に早くもプロとしての活動を開始。関西を中心に活動した後、１９９４年に拠点を関東に移す。

●１９９７年以降リーダー・アルバム１２作、ベストアルバム１作をリリース、うち3作が『スイングジャーナル誌・選定ゴールドディスク』を獲得。スタンダード曲を中心にしたオーソドックスなアルバム作りは常に高い評価を受けている。

●自己のトリオでアメリカの『コンコード・ジャズ・フェスティバル』（１９９９年／第３１回）に出演、ローズマリー・クルーニー、カウント・ベイシー・オーケストラ、マンハッタン・トランスファー等と同じステージに立った。

●２００３年秋、日露友好条約に基づいて外務省の要請によりロシア親善ツアーを行う（４都市６公演）。これは小泉首相とプーチン大統領の「カナナスキス・サミット」での日露首脳会談の折に合意された､ロシア全土で日本の伝統や文化を紹介するというプロジェクトの一貫。日本舞踊・邦楽に続き、多様な日本文化の一面を伝えるという主旨でジャズ・ピアニストの岸ミツアキに白羽の矢が立った。

●前年の評判を受けて翌２００４年には「ウラジオストク・インターナショナル・ジャズ・フェスティバル」に招聘され、アンコール公演が実現。
また２００６年３月にはハバロフスク地方政府より招聘を受けて「極東ジャズ・フェスティバル」に出演、３度目のロシア公演を行った。

●国内でもアメリカより招いたアーネスティン・アンダーソン（vocal）、ハリー・アレン（tenor sax）、ハワード・アルデン（guitar）、ジョン・クレイトン（bass）、ジェフ・ハミルトン（drums）、グラディ・テイト（vocal, drums）、ウォーレン・ヴァシェ(trumpet, cornet)、バッキー・ピザレリ（guitar）、ジェイムス・ムーディ(sax)等とライブやコンサートで共演するなど、常にグローバルに活躍している。

●俳優の故・藤岡琢也氏と写真家・浅井慎平氏が隔週でパーソナリティをつとめていたＮＨＫラジオジオ第一放送「ときめきＪＡＺＺ喫茶」（２００４年４月〜２００７年３月放送）ではオープニングとエンディング・テーマの作曲と演奏を担当、準レギュラーとして番組にもたびたび出演した。テーマ２曲が収録されたアルバム『ザ・マジカル・ジャズ・カフェ』を２００４年にリリース。

●ロン・カーター(bass)出演の「Tully’s Coffee」テレビCMに使用された曲「It’s the Time」でピアノを担当。同バージョンはロン・カーターのアルバム「It’s the Time」にボーナス・トラックとして収録された。

●出身地である和歌山県より「平成１９年度・和歌山県文化表彰／文化奨励賞」を授与される。

●２００８年１０月、デュッセルドルフ日本国総領事館の要請とバックアップにより、ドイツ公演（デュッセルドルフ市近郊で４公演）を行い大好評を博す。

●２００９年８月、韓国ソウル市『ノウワン・カルチャー・コンサート・ホール』にて公演。

●２０１０年１１月、「ウラジオストク・インターナショナル・ジャズ・フェスティバル」に再度招かれ、近郊のナホトカ市でも初ライブを行い、４度目のロシア公演を実現。

●最新リーダー・アルバム「インセンティヴ」はベーシストのニール・スウェインソンとのデュオアルバム。録音には岸ミツアキのために特別に作られたカスタムメイドのファツィオリ・ピアノを使用している。

★Mitsuaki Kishi（p） / Biography

Jazz pianist, born in Wakayama prefecture, Japan.
He started playing piano as a professional in his high school age. After he played around the Kansai area, he moved to Tokyo in 1994.

He made 12 leader albums since 1997. 3 of those recordings won the Selective Gold Disc Award of the Swing Journal, which is the oldest and the most famous jazz magazine in Japan.
His authentic style of jazz always gets the good reputation.

He appeared on the Concord Jazz Festival in U.S. in1999 with his trio. He stood on the same stage of great jazz legends such as Rosemary Clooney, Count Basie Orchestra, and Manhattan Transfer.

In 2003 fall, he went to the Russian tour as the ambassador of the International cultural exchange foundation of the Japanese government and played in 6 shows in 4 cities. (This project was the part of the Kananaskis Summit agreement between the ex-prime minister Mr. Koizumi and President Putin, that aimed to introduce the Japanese arts and culture in Russia.)
Besides showing the Japanese traditional art format, he was selected as a key person for this project in order to introduce the multicultural aspect of Japan.

In 2004, he was invited to the International Jazz Festival in Vladivostok again as the result of the successful tour of the previous year.
In 2006 March, he was invited by the government of Khabarovsk to play the 3rd concert in Russia at the Far East Jazz Festival.

In 2008 fall, he was invited to Germany, and had 4 shows around Dusseldorf city. It was the offer by the Consulate General of Japan in Dusseldorf to introduce the high-level multicultural aspect of Japan and to cultivate cultural exchanges.

In 2010 fall, he was invited to the Vladivostok International Jazz Festival again. The festival had been receiving the strong requests by many of Kishi’s fans there, and it was the fourth time for Kishi to play in Russia.

Kishi composed and played the theme music for the NHK jazz program "Tokimeki Jazz Kissa," (broad casted from April 2004 to March 2007) that was hosted by the Japanese legendary actor FUJIOKA Takuya and the photographer ASAI Shimpei and he was often invited as a regular guest.
He recorded the theme music of this program in his album "Magical Jazz Cafe" in 2004.

He played for the TV commercial song of the Tully's Coffee "It's the Time" with the jazz legend Ron Carter (bass). This recording is on the Ron's album "It's the Time" as well.

He is often marked on the high ranking of the popular jazz pianists in "The Japan Jazz Readers’ Poll" of the Swing Journal magazine.

He won the Cultural Award of 2007 of Wakayama prefecture.

He often tours domestically with the great jazz legends from U.S. such as Ernestine Anderson (vocal), Harry Allen (tenor sax), Howard Alden (guitar), John Clayton (bass), Jeff Hamilton (drums), Grady Tate (vocal, drums), Warren Vache (cornet), Bucky Pizzarelli (guitar), and James Moody (sax).

He released the latest album "Incentive" in September 2010. It’s the duo album with Neil Swainson who is the world famous Canadian bassist and was the regular member of the George Shearing Trio.
Kishi played the FAZIOLI piano at the recording. FAZIOLI is the high-class Italian piano brand, and became the official piano for “The International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition 2010”.
The FAZIOLI piano he played at the recording is the custom-made one for himself, and it’s the first time for FAZIOLI to make an ART-CASE piano for the famous artist.
